EU Debate Club "Will young people play a key role in fighting climate change?" was held on 22 May
On Wednesday 22 May 2019, EU Debate Student Club was held in Room 403 of Academia Hall for Social Sciences at Rokkodai campus of Kobe University.
12 participants first listened to Greta Thunberg's speech at the COP24 Conference.
As the reduced use of fossil fuels is crucial in our fight to save the climate, participants started
their debate by questioning the feasibility of switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Referring to Greta's
speech in which she calls for solutions within the current system, participants shared their views on the relations between
developed and developing countries- for example when it comes to dealing with plastic waste. Then the debate focused on the
role of young people and the ways how individuals can help protect our climate and environment- for instance, students shared
their experiences with reusable shopping bags. Towards the end of the debate, participants also expressed their views on the
advantages and possible concerns regarding the use of social media in the fight to save our climate.
